Martha, Late in My Life

Martha, late in my life
My morning is no longer empty
It arouses a new day,
With the touch of your soft shoulder’s skin.

Late in my life, you revive
The sound of songs that I once sang
When I was young.
Melodies of youth that we both know.

Late in my life, you show me
Things I’ve never seen before,
Once more.
A vista of bright orange and yellow.

Late in my life, you taste
Like morning dew, poised on
A crocus.
A fleeting flower that lives forever.

Late in my life, your scent is
Like a just-born baby girl,
Yet I’m content
With the babes we already have.

To know once more the joy
I’ve known before, and now again.
It’s the same
You bring to me late in my life.
